Apr. 3rd, 2008 06:20 pmI do so love when my county makes the news. Our sheriff parked in a handicapped parking spot, and then threatened a guy with a taser when he asked him to move. The really sad thing is that the sheriff doesn't exactly dispute it, except to say that he didn't threaten the other guy with a taser, he just drew it out and showed it to the other guy. And this is how I learned that "menacing" is a misdemeanor. (Our very local paper is making a huge deal about it-complete with the transcripts of all the calls made by the man to the police, our sheriff to the local police, etc. Not to mention a lengthy article by the editor of the paper explaining that he doesn't have a vendetta against the sheriff, no matter what the sheriff says.)
I did feel sorry for our sheriff-the last time he made the news it was because he had no deputies, and the county was recommending that he take out a loan so he could afford to pay some. Apparently the budget didn't allow for deputies this year.
What didn't make the news was the woman in Elkton who got held at knife point by a woman wearing a gorilla mask. It's getting so you can't even go to the Dollar General anymore.
