Writer's Block: Cryptozoology

I used to be a pretty big fan of Nessie. I guess my favorite cryptid for now is the wampus cat. I'm told by very reliable sources that this creature has glowing red eyes, huge teeth, and the ability to be flattened by a car and wander away uninjured. At least, that's the description I was given of the Western Kentucky wampus cat; I believe the swamp wampus cat of my youth is a distinct sub-species.
Also found in western Kentucky is the snipe. I still don't know what that is, except apparently it isn't to be confused with the water bird of the same name.
