Apr. 30th, 2010 01:31 pmI went shopping yesterday and overheard a teenager telling an older woman she was skipping her after-prom party because she needed to go to bed early so she could get up and study for an exam. The woman lavished praise on her, about how the girl had her priorities in order. I didn't say anything-it's hard enough to be a teenager without strangers criticizing you-but I wanted to. She didn't have her priorities straight. Prom only happens once-studying is all the time. If you can't push the studying off just one weekend, you aren't doing something right.
That's a lesson I wish I'd known when I was younger, because I learned it a little too well in college. Still, I'm sitting here grading papers and told my coworkers I'd have to skip kickball practice, because I have my priorities in order. Right?
