So, there's this tearoom in Clarksville I've been meaning to check out. I love me some tea and little sandwiches. This one sounded like it had some really good teas, and they pretty regularly had kids tea parties, so I figured it wouldn't be too stuffy. I was kind of hoping one of Mom's clubs would have one of their luncheons there, so I could tag along.

Then I found out the tearoom in question got busted for being a front for a prostitution ring. I'm very glad Mom's bookclub wasn't there at the time. Then again, it would have been really funny-and Mom's bookclub is a wild bunch anyway.

Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with an early onset form of Alzheimer's. I like his response: "I will, of course, be dead at some future point, as will everybody else. For me, this maybe further off than you think. ..
"I know it's a very human thing to say 'Is there anything I can do?' but in this case I would only entertain offers from very high-end experts in brain chemistry."

I'm confused that so many people worried that his condition was "immediately life threatening". The problem with Alzheimer's is not that he'll be dead soon-it's that his mind will slowly rot away while his body stubbornly hangs on. I don't usually get upset when I hear about celebrities like that, but Alzheimer's is such a terrible disease. He seems to be very optimistic about it-maybe that'll help, and maybe they'll develop some sort of better treatment soon. I know there's things that can slow it down a bit, at least.
